Presley also created the term "Active Archive", founded the Active Archive Alliance and has served on the Board of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA).

Prior to joining ARUP, he was IT Manager for Sundance Institute, Sundance Film Festival, and the Sundance Film Labs in Utah and California. Prior to Sundance Institute, he was Systems Administrator at Denim Software where he managed website presence and local Windows system and network services and at Discreet Logic where he managed Windows system and network services and provided system integration training.
